For Vanguard’s Jean Lu, the drive to foster a more diverse community is an essential part of being a leader. Lu, a principal and department head in Vanguard Institutional Advisory Services, was recently honored with a 2022 Ascend A-list Award, highlighting her commitment to the development and advancement of Asian professionals throughout her 20-year tenure.
Ascend is the largest Pan-Asian business professional membership organization in North America. The Ascend A-List Awards seek to recognize Pan-Asian business leaders who have had an impact in a wide spectrum of industries.
“I am humbled and thankful for the many people who have been my inspiration and for those I have inspired, working together toward a more representative, inclusive, and just community at Vanguard and at large,” Lu said. “It is an honor to use my voice to give voice to others and know in my heart that I have made a difference.”
Among her accomplishments in contributing to Vanguard diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts, Lu is a founding member and co-lead of Vanguard’s Leadership and Engagement for Asian Professionals (LEAP) crew resource group. She has developed several signature programs to advance Asian professionals into senior leadership roles and increase engagement among entry-level crew and has sponsored several LEAP and DEI conferences.
Lu regularly participates in industry conferences aimed at developing Asian professionals, represents Vanguard on the National Association of Asian American Professionals’ Employee Resource Group Council, and is an avid mentor for both Asian professionals and low-income students.
“Jean truly exemplifies our aspiration to foster an inclusive work environment, thereby advancing our DEI journey as a whole,” said Crystal Hardie Langston, Vanguard’s chief diversity officer. “Jean’s dedication to LEAP and mentorship of Asian crew are shining examples of why she is most deserving of this honor.”
