Carra Cote-Ackah Receives the Red Cross Clara Barton Outstanding Humanitarian Award for Community Service

VALLEY FORGE, PA (November 10, 2016) — Vanguard’s Executive Director of Community Stewardship was honored with the Clara Barton Outstanding Humanitarian Award for Community Service at the at the 23rd Annual Spectrum Awards breakfast, hosted by the American Red Cross Eastern Pennsylvania Region at The Union League in Philadelphia.

The Clara Barton Outstanding Humanitarian Award for Community Service is given to a woman who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in areas of community service, such as education, hunger, homelessness, or preservation of life in our community.

In Carra’s acceptance remarks, she referenced American Red Cross founder Clara Barton, Vanguard founder Jack Bogle, and today’s children who will become tomorrow’s leaders: “The leadership of Clara Barton, Jack Bogle, and the future leadership of my daughter draw from the belief that each of us can choose to step forward on behalf of others, and face big and small moments each day where we have an opportunity to make a greater difference in the people’s lives.”

Carra has dedicated her career to helping others. She oversees the Vanguard Gives Back Vanguard Gives Back community service activities, including its employee giving efforts, volunteer initiatives, and a new philanthropic impact program, Vanguard Capital for Kids.

“It’s wonderful to see one of Vanguard’s own being recognized for their contributions and dedication to making a difference in our community,” said Chris McIsaac, Managing Director, Planning and Development.

Prior to joining Vanguard, Carra served as a Director at the University of Pennsylvania’s Center for High Impact Philanthropy. She also currently serves as Vice Chair of the Board of the Surdna Foundation, one of the oldest and largest family foundations in the U.S., and in leadership of the Young Presidents’ Organization.
