VALLEY FORGE, PA (January 12, 2026)—Vanguard announced today that Managing Director Joanna Rotenberg will expand her leadership responsibilities across the firm’s U.S. direct-to-investor businesses. In addition to leading Advice & Wealth Management, she will oversee Vanguard’s Personal Investor division. These businesses serve individuals across the investment spectrum, from first-time investors and savers to individuals and families navigating more complex financial needs including estate or tax planning. The appointment will support the continued focus and significant investment in these businesses while accelerating progress on setting a new standard for client service and experience across each client segment.
“Joanna’s extensive experience running large self-directed businesses and delivering exceptional client service positions her well to lead our Advice & Wealth Management and Personal Investor businesses,” said Salim Ramji, Vanguard CEO. “She brings dedication to Vanguard’s mission to help all investors achieve financial success together with an understanding of how to serve clients’ evolving needs—through life milestones, challenges, and increasing financial complexity. Joanna’s client focus and mission-alignment along with her digital expertise will help us set a new standard for what individual investors can expect from the Vanguard experience.”
For the decade prior to joining Vanguard, Joanna successfully led direct brokerage businesses, driving measurable results and transformative change. Most recently, Joanna enhanced client satisfaction and service while leading the retirement, wealth, and brokerage business at another leading investment firm, including pioneering new ways to engage next-generation investors.
“Vanguard investors have a disciplined approach to investing, but unique needs and goals and higher expectations of us rooted in trust,” said Joanna. “I look forward to working with our leaders and crew to accelerate delivery of exceptional experiences and outcomes for our clients.”
Matt Benchener, who led the firm’s Personal Investor division for five years, is departing the firm for a new role.
Salim added, “For nearly two decades, Matt served as a constant champion of Vanguard’s mission and we are grateful for his years of dedicated service.”
