Since 1972, there have been 13 bear markets, or market declines of 20% or more, in global equities. The 13 bear markets are represented by vertical bars on this chart and the overall performance of the stock market is represented by a mountain chart using MSCI data. We found that equities recovered from bear markets and posted strong results over the long term.
