Market value of U.S.-listed securities by cap size
This chart compares the market value of publicly listed companies in the United States from 2003 to 2024, categorizing them as either 1) microcaps, or 2) large-, mid-, and small-caps. The market value of microcap companies, which are considered less investable, ranges from about $1.5 trillion in 2003 to about $4.6 trillion in 2024, peaking at about $5.6 trillion in 2021. The market value of large-, mid-, and small-cap companies is much larger throughout the period, ranging from about $11.0 trillion in 2003 to about $55.9 trillion in 2024.
