A bubble chart compares the duration of drawdowns and recoveries for every decade from the 1950s through the 2000s and for the period from 2010–2026. The x-axis shows the duration of drawdowns from peak to trough in a range from 0 to 700 calendar days. The y-axis shows the duration of recoveries, from trough back to the previous peak in a range from 0 to more than 2,000 calendar days. Each decade is shown as a bubble positioned by the average drawdown duration and average recovery duration. Longer average drawdowns combined with longer average recoveries, as represented by the 1970s and 2000s bubbles, appear highest and farthest to the right. Meanwhile, the 1990s and 2010–2026 bubbles appear lower and farthest to the left, indicating shorter drawdowns combined with quicker recoveries.
