Our fixed income client portfolio managers are market-facing extensions of Vanguard’s fixed income investment team, responsible for translating portfolio strategy, positioning, and performance into clear, actionable insights for clients and advisors while representing the firm’s investment expertise externally.
This team sits at the intersection of portfolio management, distribution and the advisor experience. Serving as the connective tissue between those who build portfolios and those who allocate them, they deliver real-time perspective on markets, risk, and portfolio construction. The team brings client perspective directly into product decisions, keeping Vanguard’s fixed income offerings aligned with client needs and focused on maximizing investor outcomes.
Matthew Wrzesniewsky leads Fixed Income Client Portfolio Management at Vanguard, where his team is responsible for providing subject matter expertise on fixed income markets and Vanguard products. The team oversees new business development, messaging, outreach, and content strategy for Vanguard’s fixed income platform.
Before joining Vanguard in 2025, Matt held senior roles at Goldman Sachs Asset Management, including leading fixed income client portfolio management for the Third-Party Wealth business line, with a focus on active municipal and multi-sector fixed income strategies. He also held senior roles overseeing the firm’s U.S. fixed income product strategy and led its U.S. investment strategist team.
Earlier in his career, Matt worked at AllianceBernstein, first as an internal wholesaler supporting financial planners and broker-dealers, then as a product specialist on the municipal fixed income team, where he contributed to the growth of the company’s mutual fund and separately managed account platforms.
Matt holds a B.A. in American studies from Trinity College and an M.S. in finance from Baruch College.
Nicholas Baccash is a fixed income client portfolio manager supporting Vanguard's fixed income product suite. Previously, Nick was a senior product manager supporting Vanguard's active fixed income products; his coverage included both the active taxable and municipal franchises, with an emphasis on high-yield, municipal, and money market products. In this role he was responsible for monitoring fixed income product positioning and performance, communicating about Vanguard’s fixed income capabilities, developing product and market insights in collaboration with the fixed income investment team, and supporting new investment product development and product enhancements. Prior to that, he was a member of the investment product strategy group, focused on researching nascent product trends and coordinating Vanguard’s internal seed capital program. Before joining Vanguard in 2016, he was a manager in PricewaterhouseCoopers’ global forensic services practice.
Nick earned a B.S. in finance and B.S. in German from The Pennsylvania State University. He is a CFA charterholder and a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society Philadelphia.
Mariya Dmitriev is a fixed income client portfolio manager, supporting Vanguard’s fixed income product suite. In her role, Mariya collaborates closely with investment teams and sales partners to ensure an exceptional client product experience.
Before joining Vanguard in 2019, Mariya worked for BlackRock, most recently as a portfolio manager on the firm’s cash management team. In this role, her primary responsibilities included managing U.S. liquidity portfolios, with a focus on U.S. government and Treasury strategies. Previously, she managed prime money market funds at BlackRock. Mariya began her career at JPMorgan Chase as part of their rotational development program.
Mariya earned a dual degree in finance and accounting from Drexel University. She serves as a co-chair of the corporate sponsor and membership committee of Women in Investing Network (WIN) of Philadelphia. A CFA charterholder, Mariya is a member of the CFA Society Philadelphia. She holds FINRA Series 7 and 63 licenses.
Nathaniel Earle is a senior fixed income client portfolio manager supporting Vanguard’s fixed income product suite. He is responsible for offering actionable fixed income market insights, with a special focus on the municipal bond franchise.
Before joining Vanguard in 2021, Nate was a vice president portfolio strategist for State Street Global Advisors, responsible for driving growth and product development within the firm’s index and active fixed income franchises. Previously, he was a product manager at Standish Management, where he drove marketing efforts and built portfolio analytics support models for the liability-driven investment group. Prior to his time at Standish, he was a product manager at PIMCO, where he launched the firm’s ETF product suite.
Nate earned a B.A. from Bates College and an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He is a CFA charterholder and holds the FRM certification.
Daniel Larkin is a senior client portfolio manager at Vanguard, where he works with Vanguard’s fixed income investment team and is responsible for supporting the active taxable fixed income product lineup. Dan’s primary responsibilities include meeting with clients to share portfolio positioning, performance, and investment outlooks, authoring investment thought leadership content, and supporting the research and design of new fixed income products.
Before joining Vanguard in 2016, Dan worked as a fixed income performance and risk analyst at Barclays Capital; prior to that, he was a mortgage-backed securities analyst at Standard & Poor’s. Earlier in his career, he served as director of fixed income for Nationwide Financial’s manager research team, where he was charged with oversight and manager search efforts for all of Nationwide’s sub-advised fixed income mutual fund strategies.
Dan earned a B.B.A. in finance from James Madison University. He is a CFA charterholder.
Samuel Martinez is a senior client portfolio manager and head of fixed income client specialists. In this role, Sam represents Vanguard’s fixed income investment team and plays a leading role in efforts to scale the delivery of fixed income expertise to business partners and clients. Prior to his current position, he served as head of product for Vanguard’s active and index fixed income product franchises.
Sam has a long history in fixed income asset management and extensive experience in the investment-grade sector. Previously, he was a named senior portfolio manager on several of Vanguard’s active taxable bond funds with total assets over $100 billion. He also co-led the structured products sector team, with a focus on high-quality asset-backed securities and commercial mortgage-backed securities. After joining the firm in 2007, Sam spent his first few years at Vanguard trading in money markets, repo markets, Treasury markets, and investment-grade bond markets.
Sam earned a B.S. in finance from Southern Utah University and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a CFA charterholder.
Michael Plink is a fixed income client portfolio manager supporting Vanguard’s fixed income product suite. Previously he was a senior product manager and consultant, responsible for supporting the active taxable fixed income product lineup, including monitoring each fund’s positioning and performance in the markets, communicating about Vanguard products internally and externally, and driving and implementing product improvements with Vanguard Portfolio Review Department. Before that, he supported the firm’s fixed income platform from within Workplace Solutions, bringing client-facing experience with institutional clients and consultants, as well as a deep understanding of the competitive landscape across the institutional business. His background as a 3(38) investment manager also gives him firsthand insight into investing, risk management, and portfolio construction. He joined Vanguard in 2007.
Mike earned a B.A. in sociology and an M.B.A. in finance and economics, both from Millersville University. He is a CFA charterholder and a member of the CFA Society Philadelphia.
Rebecca Venter is a senior fixed income client portfolio manager at Vanguard, where she acts as a liaison between Vanguard’s portfolio management teams and clients. In this capacity, Rebecca translates investment strategy, performance, and market developments into clear, actionable insights. She delivers perspectives on the fixed income markets and Vanguard products that support client relationships, content development, and new business initiatives.
Prior to her current role, Rebecca was an investment analyst on the oversight and manager search team in Vanguard Portfolio Review Department; this team is responsible for identifying sub-advisory partners for Vanguard’s active fund lineup and monitoring the firm, people, process, portfolio, and performance of all existing Vanguard funds on behalf of the firm’s senior leadership team and board of directors.
Rebecca earned a B.A. in economics and finance from West Chester University. She is a CFA charterholder.
